I blogged about <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2011/05/13/bloggers-quilt-festival-spring-2011/">this festival</a> last year and loved it, so thought I would again do a BQF post!!!<br />

This is the quilt I made for my best friend's baby girl, who at the time hadn't been born. I gave it to her at the baby shower, so whilst they were pretty sure they were having a pink baby, we weren't 100%!!!<br />

I chose a new design for this quilt, for some reason I like quilts with bright colours and plain white, I think it makes them look a bit more modern and fresh...I chose my favorite fabrics and cut square, then halved them on the diagonal, and then resewed with 1/2 a white sqaure. This IS time consuming, but I LOVE the effect once it is pieced. So simple but so bold!!! I was really pleased with the quilt top, how it came together, how the joins are pretty spot-on...the back took me AGES to choose for some reason I just couldn't settle on the right colour, but I love this choice, even now. I knew baby E's mummy wouldn't be a pinky-pinky mummy, and she isn't, so I am happy that it fits them and their style!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtWbfA_Jt2MKrdyPKSq4_d-jKSWdbUY5FixlOcZD1GA3zN-PN2QF4TmT17MXJnC6OFzCD0UUtqp3rPAY7JEfxq_Zzqi71GfO_4neOJ-f_zmYvakLGcwU9Tcsz0q-5iM_j4zB7zIDye1Pk/s1600/IMG_0383.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="351" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtWbfA_Jt2MKrdyPKSq4_d-jKSWdbUY5FixlOcZD1GA3zN-PN2QF4TmT17MXJnC6OFzCD0UUtqp3rPAY7JEfxq_Zzqi71GfO_4neOJ-f_zmYvakLGcwU9Tcsz0q-5iM_j4zB7zIDye1Pk/s400/IMG_0383.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>Here it is all bundled up and ready to be given (a little pink bow, well a girl has to have some pink hey?), and here is baby E herself...even her Thank You cards were printed with a photo of her on her quilt and when they moved house, everyone who came round commented on it apparently!!! :-D And so here she is, Baby E and her quilt...she is a delightful baby, who I do love, (perhaps a little too much!!!)...<br />

qSo another friend has had another baby. Which is wonderful...there are sooo many about...<br />
So I rustled up another little quilt...for cot/buggy/play-mat...<br />
I was inspired by<a href="http://sometimescrafter.blogspot.com/2011/04/linen-pink-quilt.html"> this quilt</a> from The Sometimes Crafter...It looked simple, yet effective...And it was...<br />
It took me a while to plan it...and work out how many squares I needed...but I chose blue/green/yellow based fabrics plus a few white ones...I wanted to keep it light and modern...<br />
I cut out 5 3x3" squares from each fabric, and then laid them out, then I sewed each row, then each row together, then ironed flat, quilted using a random wiggly pattern and then bound with white bias binding.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqViu2sN6lklo4lX6y0BYiNFa99alzJXl1EmVL9Z93AiXFKlOki7S64kNUhCV-cA3vduWRUogJQRAs6Kde0_y6uyg6WGjrcJvkQCR1HyQESdJTkutwCpmynCOauLJuY9crhI8w6CD0w4g/s1600/DSCF1343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqViu2sN6lklo4lX6y0BYiNFa99alzJXl1EmVL9Z93AiXFKlOki7S64kNUhCV-cA3vduWRUogJQRAs6Kde0_y6uyg6WGjrcJvkQCR1HyQESdJTkutwCpmynCOauLJuY9crhI8w6CD0w4g/s320/DSCF1343.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I sewed my friends baby's name and date of birth in the corner, using my walking foot...I do LOVE that little walking foot!!!<br />
The backing fabric was one I got from America...Simple multicoloured dots. And there you go...A new quilt!!! :-D<br />
<br />

so I have a new quilty project to post...actually I have made it before, but not like this, so I will show and you can see...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDimt_5WRF7BMeYX_J-3CY3Dadm0SoJCyla0TjP0i7ecrXoUI4NBKZzPmyINxJMn1TN-gR93yiVjyv80xzbiB_y9Gnck2dg1Q0mH0ydbLK9TIEmQLRb2WV2JeOO40YubUfdrknJ-s0Znk/s1600/DSCF1219.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDimt_5WRF7BMeYX_J-3CY3Dadm0SoJCyla0TjP0i7ecrXoUI4NBKZzPmyINxJMn1TN-gR93yiVjyv80xzbiB_y9Gnck2dg1Q0mH0ydbLK9TIEmQLRb2WV2JeOO40YubUfdrknJ-s0Znk/s320/DSCF1219.JPG" width="280" /></a></div>I made it for the sister of a friend from work who has just had a boy...I'm pretty pleased with it and so was my friend...It was nice to work more with one colour theme, then to have free range and go with anything...<br />
what do you think? My biggest problem is going to be some orders which are coming up for babies, where they don't know what they are having...making Uni-sex quilts is gonna be tough I think...<br />
Have a great May, RuthiexxxRuthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6641868182069974814.post-12142285348287686592011-04-11T13:07:00.000-07:002011-04-11T13:07:11.528-07:00Recent baking/cooking/creating...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">So I've been enjoying a bit of baking/cooking recently...and have been pretty pleased with the results...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Firstly from the Wonderful World of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (I got his latest recipe book for Christmas - <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/River-Cottage-Every-Hugh-Fearnley-Whittingstall/dp/0747598401/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302550122&sr=8-1-spell">River Cottage Everyday</a>) and I made 2 dishes....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> 1- Focaccia Bread - Hugh's recipe is simple but has a few ideas to adapt it, the 1st time I made it i just did rosemary and salt, but the 2nd time I roasted some red pepper and then when making the holes in the top I poked a few bits of the red pepper, basil and some crumbled up feta cheese...and this is the result...(I also substituted plain bread flour for wholemeal bread flour, I sieved out some of the bran and then sprinkled that on the top too)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIu89C6IC4re1Xr-P5P2ud6jkrbFbLzgVbVmuFS4oxIAVkVvVCy4pYsrtRIPqVZXVck20Lb8w1k6zcaU7XOs5zH8qdyOaknLTvU0iLfI2QRdNyG5UQ_hmOCpyC83CnCJVFK80fB1gWdMk/s1600/IMG_0802.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIu89C6IC4re1Xr-P5P2ud6jkrbFbLzgVbVmuFS4oxIAVkVvVCy4pYsrtRIPqVZXVck20Lb8w1k6zcaU7XOs5zH8qdyOaknLTvU0iLfI2QRdNyG5UQ_hmOCpyC83CnCJVFK80fB1gWdMk/s320/IMG_0802.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> 2 - Also from Hugh's book I make a frittata for a quick and easy light dinner for me and my 2 housemates...I put in smoked bacon, spinich and feta cheese ( as I LOATH goats cheese), it's very quick and easy...might make a few more every now and then, it's great for using up bits and bobs in the fridge...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitjIbBh0UP_cUJfDOLj6N_ALShTRtwDfbC4U8wC-L2rEWWdXeN7Qgy_hrwxiU5Sp2w9tnH6UjUksLrs4XwkWZKBExLPy67HSB7RSvDnsk0HEzafVdzskOS_LncqxV3k9Eag2P9AsoPnD0/s1600/IMG_0805.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitjIbBh0UP_cUJfDOLj6N_ALShTRtwDfbC4U8wC-L2rEWWdXeN7Qgy_hrwxiU5Sp2w9tnH6UjUksLrs4XwkWZKBExLPy67HSB7RSvDnsk0HEzafVdzskOS_LncqxV3k9Eag2P9AsoPnD0/s320/IMG_0805.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">And then, not from Hugh's book, but based on something I saw on BBC 2's Baking made Easy with Lorraine Pascale, Sun-dried Tomato Palmiers. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">They are Seriously easy to make and completely DELICIOUS...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I made mine by making a mix of sun-dried tomatos, roasted peppers and fresh basil that I blended with a hand blender. Next I unrolled a sheet of pre-made puff pastry, and spread onto it the tomato-y mix, then rolled up the pastry from both of the long sides of the sheet, so that it meets in the middle.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1SGEViii0yxt_Mbl_fe51TiozVfZsG7G_oGBGPuUYPWj7CZ2cjipJy5aCSVSnJIfHmhWVz0178xjBvygqewVIYiEeimB91KRD-tGfgScT7_gtdz1zdFX_H6FflfQXJFDiWL4B_6nD_sc/s1600/IMG_0811.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1SGEViii0yxt_Mbl_fe51TiozVfZsG7G_oGBGPuUYPWj7CZ2cjipJy5aCSVSnJIfHmhWVz0178xjBvygqewVIYiEeimB91KRD-tGfgScT7_gtdz1zdFX_H6FflfQXJFDiWL4B_6nD_sc/s320/IMG_0811.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Then I put it in the fridge for about half an hour, so it firms up. Then using a VERY sharp knife cut 1/2 cm thick slices and placed then flat side up with lots of space around them, onto a baking sheet.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTAxKdqbG7DRuO2Ba_ja2_fvbfXyG14uNojhFTrppEHlZ5NdkiNxiGihenMiKQcunDQiylhoTf_QlOkSy2TxBrlxIkTA1IotxSoxwXKaK6rzE6DayBCM6CPG-ak4arl4CSuYADfMX0D44/s1600/IMG_0812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTAxKdqbG7DRuO2Ba_ja2_fvbfXyG14uNojhFTrppEHlZ5NdkiNxiGihenMiKQcunDQiylhoTf_QlOkSy2TxBrlxIkTA1IotxSoxwXKaK6rzE6DayBCM6CPG-ak4arl4CSuYADfMX0D44/s320/IMG_0812.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I then used an egg wash on the tops of each one and then baked it in the oven for about 10 mins...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />

New cushions!!! Especially when it's your birthday...<br />
So here they are, I made 2...for my lovely friend A...<br />
Both are made from grey felt (very cheap), then buttons from my never ending stock of buttons and LARGE buttons I got from my local Fabric Land...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL5pnAavnYClUgqXIER-1DKZVrAMO2cwua8ZtXlXwNneMK2qjJyvaLma2ArVndP4zWJHs2Xx_rmqMJm9eJtNZdkFxCHB3PWZcJorcfUyep18w5OMcH42uW51Cc_BK5qVi_N_YyE9BmHDo/s1600/IMG_0768.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL5pnAavnYClUgqXIER-1DKZVrAMO2cwua8ZtXlXwNneMK2qjJyvaLma2ArVndP4zWJHs2Xx_rmqMJm9eJtNZdkFxCHB3PWZcJorcfUyep18w5OMcH42uW51Cc_BK5qVi_N_YyE9BmHDo/s320/IMG_0768.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Using the excess after cutting enough for the cover I cut out circles, in 3 different sizes, then chopped them in half. Drew round a side plate in the middle of the front of the cushion, then started applying the petals. I pinned each one in place, around the circle, then ran the sewing machine around the bottoms to secure them, then I repeated the process, pinning (to hide the sewing from the previous layer), sewing, pinning, sewing etc...after about 3 rows I made a slight pleet in the petal to add some height...and then the very centre I rolled the petals and hand sewed them in place...This was VERY time consuming, but VERY effective...no wonder they fetch so much in the shops!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinIaZ5tKnqREMvID9wvugAahNqy6fnXONlJ-9Y-UqQXZCzc34kumQL8op8PVQoyGiCyEzYe_MrVmQP6acbtbq6atDe3LWMxvOrGVknYZBD1iSXyKvLzA_BIeP-7jMxbRk2sdrAbXlTu8U/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinIaZ5tKnqREMvID9wvugAahNqy6fnXONlJ-9Y-UqQXZCzc34kumQL8op8PVQoyGiCyEzYe_MrVmQP6acbtbq6atDe3LWMxvOrGVknYZBD1iSXyKvLzA_BIeP-7jMxbRk2sdrAbXlTu8U/s320/photo.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I also made a second cushion, using the same technique to make them, then drew round a heart stencil, and then sewed on about 75 buttons to fill in the heart....I do love the finished article, but wish there was a faster way to sew on buttons!!!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWVbiN8VcXs5Cc39FBDdRFiGLxYledCzpVpB26iylgzConErKWCc2YlBWMEqmDZRXlefRiBNGyWrwWn8orFspPMyN3-KPH6qk51ClRNpBG3Bb-Oy91__euqQrhJVIPaHIpkodjZpwoKac/s1600/scrap+cushion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWVbiN8VcXs5Cc39FBDdRFiGLxYledCzpVpB26iylgzConErKWCc2YlBWMEqmDZRXlefRiBNGyWrwWn8orFspPMyN3-KPH6qk51ClRNpBG3Bb-Oy91__euqQrhJVIPaHIpkodjZpwoKac/s320/scrap+cushion.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
really easy to make using random scraps from the scrap box...basically I just iron, make sure I have a straight line, sew, iron, cut, sew...etc, etc, etc...it was pretty easy, I then made a back out of white cotton, envelope style and ta da...1 cushion done!!!<br />
This one is already sold to my mates mum, gonna make a second one soon...<br />
In other news, I bought an awesome new draw/storage thing the other day. My previous storage solution consist of cupboards in the kitchen which are FULL of fabric, and then boxes, tool boxes, and more boxes in the lounge in a horrible kinda messy thing which is awkard to get at, annoying to put stuff back into...<br />
So IKEA to the rescue...I bought this <a href="http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S29877698">Antonius storage system </a>for around £30!!! It's brillient, although it was VERY noisy to put together!!! has a solid top so I can keep my sewing machine on the top and it looks like a proper bit of furniture so that it doesn't look too weird in the lounge!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAXWWjIcMdaiGNZeiEPJvZWwtpLNrWJtHNWWmWeVMQHkli4eaPS6k0eI0ysKcQN_D6e6GBFe3h6Bp1_m_DW65IVcGlk60_5tR0ztJCPVTQ0MIqD_dxJVfuPj0UkzHibu6g-GNCh3UYnRI/s1600/lounge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAXWWjIcMdaiGNZeiEPJvZWwtpLNrWJtHNWWmWeVMQHkli4eaPS6k0eI0ysKcQN_D6e6GBFe3h6Bp1_m_DW65IVcGlk60_5tR0ztJCPVTQ0MIqD_dxJVfuPj0UkzHibu6g-GNCh3UYnRI/s320/lounge.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Sorry about the rubbish photo (iphone in the dark!!!)<br />
But yeah...sooo much better!!! what storage solutions have you employed? particularly if you live in a teeny-tiny place with no sewing/craft room? (I have serious craft room envy whenever I see someone with a sewing machine!!!) Will endeavour to post again soon...Ruthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6641868182069974814.post-57009795682386819192011-02-09T06:58:00.000-08:002011-02-09T06:58:57.703-08:00Wow...it's February!!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE22Ccls7NUd3IiyzWfNv486cA-KbaH3oyzqqJMju10D3by6ubRzzUnRPcRgkli8ounlsVYEgG8EHvRHKxLJ8zc8JUjQ-arh5EggV2xiYBMFK4iHiPh4oO6j_waLZhvvPNzaWyYKuB3FA/s1600/DSCF1011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="147" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE22Ccls7NUd3IiyzWfNv486cA-KbaH3oyzqqJMju10D3by6ubRzzUnRPcRgkli8ounlsVYEgG8EHvRHKxLJ8zc8JUjQ-arh5EggV2xiYBMFK4iHiPh4oO6j_waLZhvvPNzaWyYKuB3FA/s320/DSCF1011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>So time seems to be disappearing, literally before my eyes!!!<br />
But I have been doing some fun little bits and bobs...<br />
I made a cute paper garland as a surprise for my housemate's birthday the other day!!!<br />
I made it using my awesome new circle cutter it's soooo GOOD!!! and a bargain...I got it in the USA when I was over at new year visiting my sister and Bro-in-law!!!<br />
It's made by <a href="http://www.eksuccessbrands.com/ektools/Products/Circle_Scissor_Pro_EKPL1006.htm">EK Success</a> and is really easy to use. (see the link to buy or watch a video)<br />

Busy, busy busy this week with 2-3 quilting projects on the go, my aunt has asked me to make her a laptop case so once the baby wakes I will get onto that, and then I have 2 quilts on the go...I really should learnt to finish one before doing another...photos to come soon...Ruthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6641868182069974814.post-63839879881946974872011-01-04T07:18:00.000-08:002011-01-04T07:18:52.957-08:00Christmas Gifts...SOOOOOOOO...now Christmas is over, and I am now in the USA I can now share some of the photos of the things I made this Christmas as gifts...<br />
I wanted something a bit more exciting then just a make-up bag to make as little extra's for my mum, granny, and 2 sisters, so I (rather stupidly perhaps) decided to make them aprons...So using a rather out-dated looking pattern from <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m3979-products-4371.php?page_id=906">McCall's</a> I set to work.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5Coc6tEF7Iibl3RxkbxDk-4u203xhIDwjRXgk6EpvExYTJ7NmHBAZ_7VygygYzFUeUy6lbFj6qBaIyp1qh6FUUMSOuVm5dfWMcfZhJsjatXYoZuNgD25vdn9tgm5Uu8pWjNxx_sHpv8k/s1600/aprons.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5Coc6tEF7Iibl3RxkbxDk-4u203xhIDwjRXgk6EpvExYTJ7NmHBAZ_7VygygYzFUeUy6lbFj6qBaIyp1qh6FUUMSOuVm5dfWMcfZhJsjatXYoZuNgD25vdn9tgm5Uu8pWjNxx_sHpv8k/s320/aprons.jpg" width="303" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I wanted to make the top right hand apron, fairly simple and straight forward!!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Now...I have never, done any pattern making, never been taught how, never been shown, it was never even mentioned at school...so except for the skirt I make in the summer, which to be honest, I barely needed the pattern for, I was rather daunted when I started reading this one. Once I had overcome the language barrier (words like nap, etc...using this <a href="http://www.sewingpatterns.com/sewingdictionary.php">Sewing Pattern Dictionary</a>) I got to work...it really was straight forward...just follow the steps...and here is the finished article, all the way out in Portland Oregon, with my lovely sister Lizzie...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8807FCB02GLmvVgFn9KBbodtWFwoPsuBCHjZBelF69C_ewQzwdFH8ifd5nAb9R_7vqOSkyMbxKEDBCs-Gj2xl4N8YL9n-UIyhBF8IkmmBqYEhwl4AV38CxcmznvkMWfCE4f3pRnJSHhg/s1600/DSCF1005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8807FCB02GLmvVgFn9KBbodtWFwoPsuBCHjZBelF69C_ewQzwdFH8ifd5nAb9R_7vqOSkyMbxKEDBCs-Gj2xl4N8YL9n-UIyhBF8IkmmBqYEhwl4AV38CxcmznvkMWfCE4f3pRnJSHhg/s320/DSCF1005.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
The only thing I changed was that the waste band was a bit wide, so I sewed it over so that it lay a bit flatter when worn. I loved making the pocket...they are really cute and look very impressive for relatively little sewing...I defiantly will be using gathers again!!! they are really easy and look really impressive if I do say so myself!!! here's another front on shot for the full effect...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_MYP2h8HnF1Lui01wbSWlLvuIzccf01Z4jyFxhDXldsomITNjJxjfqH44dwtGegGqnJugssS7R5AyIdgtGNhGd2XrhepVnvIXpsExErI9DyHtkR-20oJDhrx0XUd8PFNt4JtwjZv16l4/s1600/DSCF1008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_MYP2h8HnF1Lui01wbSWlLvuIzccf01Z4jyFxhDXldsomITNjJxjfqH44dwtGegGqnJugssS7R5AyIdgtGNhGd2XrhepVnvIXpsExErI9DyHtkR-20oJDhrx0XUd8PFNt4JtwjZv16l4/s320/DSCF1008.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Also for Christmas my Dad suggested I made my Step-Mum a make-up bag for her handbag...well, that seemed a little too easy and a bit of a small gift, so I decided that I would make her a big make-up bag for every day use and a smaller one for her handbag to match...I quilted a piece of lovely Heather Bailey fabric, using ALL my recently found free motion machine quilting techniques...<br />

</tbody></table>And I think that ends the Christmas crafts, oh except for chocolate truffles which were a big hit again... defiantly going to become a Christmas tradition. This year I made, chocolate orange ones, rolled in cocoa, then plain dark chocolate ones rolled in either chopped nuts, chocolate flakes or chocolate crispy balls!!! YUMMY!!! the only ingredients for the truffles are plain chocolate, cream and butter!!! about million calories a bite, but it's Christmas so who cares!!!<br />
And 1 more thing, I did make a new decoration for my sister and brother - in - laws tree, and did post it well ahead of Christmas,but it has yet to flippen arrive here in Portland, so much so I have beaten it out here....grrrr...on well they can have it for next year!!!<br />
Happy New Year!!!Ruthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6641868182069974814.post-72700896284593748452010-12-16T13:53:00.000-08:002010-12-16T13:53:28.795-08:00My Housemate the Craft-aphobe!!!One of my housemate's is something of a Craft-aphobe, whilst she is brilliant at just about everything else, cooking, cleaning, sporting things, being generally lovely, etc etc etc yet, she really does not get the crafty thing, she really doesn't understand me and my other housemate who sew, crochet, knit, quilt etc...<br />
So, when she announced that she wanted to make her Mum a Christmas present...I jumped on the chance...and she did great...she made her this brilliant jewellery roll...<br />
Really simple....just quilted 2 pieces of fabric, using the darning foot and then between us finished it off...<br />

Again I have been remiss in my blogging again...I have been uber busy...here are some of my latest creations...<br />

Laptop Cover for my Mummy...<br />
it's my Mum's Birthday this weekend and she wanted us to buy her a laptop cover...well...that seemed rather silly seeing as they are a ludicrous price, and well...I can make one...so I russelled one up...used a lovely print, not sure who buy and then quilted it, on my machine, then using the measurements my mum TEXT me...I made a pocket on the front and then sewed it all up...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR3s9lG-hZd5KgQbfNdqa-TJfNpMrNALGcUTzSN0yYp1ghv6PwVMYAYO863eBhh01aNahODvh_fv4bbiIaCQN8PVbX0vAyj6lvgSiUNnmhA5Jheyv9hlQyC9tfZWzdbFeOXF2U_Lu0zD4/s1600/IMG_0534.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR3s9lG-hZd5KgQbfNdqa-TJfNpMrNALGcUTzSN0yYp1ghv6PwVMYAYO863eBhh01aNahODvh_fv4bbiIaCQN8PVbX0vAyj6lvgSiUNnmhA5Jheyv9hlQyC9tfZWzdbFeOXF2U_Lu0zD4/s320/IMG_0534.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />

Then came the very scary moment of sending it to her, without knowing if it would fit...miraculously (or you could say, due to my immense skill...but probably more likely a miracle) IT FITTED!!! YAYYYY!!!<br />
Mum loves it and feels very trendy!!! I ended up using some strong elastic cord, in a loop from the top flap, and then sewing a button onto the front pocket for it to loop over. All in all I think my favourite thing I have made...beautiful yet functional!!!<br />
(sorry for the lousy photos, I dropped my camera on the floor just before I finished these projects, so now relying on my iPhone until I get some money this week to buy a new one)Ruthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6641868182069974814.post-39802593254846445992010-10-11T08:20:00.000-07:002010-10-11T08:20:30.932-07:00Busy Busy, not crafting much...<div style="text-align: center;">but I have been busy, </div><div style="text-align: center;">little sister got married... some photos to follow, </div><div style="text-align: center;">summer is over,</div><div style="text-align: center;">although the Autumn here is beautiful!!!</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

Another little bundle of joy will be with us soon, so I have made a little pressie for her. Her Mummy and Daddy are very good friends of mine, and it is the baby shower tomorrow. It's going to be a rather classy affair - a gazebo, blankets, cushions, bunting, cakes, food, flowers pressies and a Mummy to be!!! should be lovely!!!<br />
Anyway this is the quilt I have made, 28' square, made from 1/2 squares, with white one side and beautiful prints on the other, creating a diamond quilt, inspired by this quilt from <a href="http://pikkukettuknits.wordpress.com/2010/06/20/timangi-takki-diamond-quilt/">Pikku-Kettu Knits and Quilts.</a><br />

I went camping in Norfolk with some lovely friends from church and with some great kids...as little pressie at the end of a long week, I made the eldest girl Tali a little quilted bag...I made it the same way I made the crafting bag for my friend Lucy last month, but I just made it smaller, used cotton binding as the straps and closed it with a button on either side and a piece of cotton ribbon to hook from front to back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia7o6lWCzVDty11khVmXeJ_M9EPEB6CjNZhCGgkDoHXMVbB_go_GVAsWi451NnW94U1pGMk5rgnlx7k5XEkgSkhlZLDYym9P92kJgYFW6xo7OunAWvSJNCCRiz_1v5L2iaktsqpDWi0Vg/s1600/Tali+Bag.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia7o6lWCzVDty11khVmXeJ_M9EPEB6CjNZhCGgkDoHXMVbB_go_GVAsWi451NnW94U1pGMk5rgnlx7k5XEkgSkhlZLDYym9P92kJgYFW6xo7OunAWvSJNCCRiz_1v5L2iaktsqpDWi0Vg/s320/Tali+Bag.JPG" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Tali's Bag</i></span></div><br />
And I thought you might like a shot of my tent in the sun. It didn't shine all week, but I did manage to get this shot of my new Eurohike tent, with bunting from my kitchen and picnic blanket from <a href="http://www.joules.com/en-GB/Homepage.action">Joules</a>.<br />

Fed up of trying to find a Maxi skirt that looks nice, is made of black Jersey, is Long enough for my 5"11 height yet fits me well, I have decided to make my own. Now I'm not stupid, and I know how one is made, I can pretty much work it out for myself, however, as it is my 1st dip into the clothes making world, I thought buying a pattern would be wise. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEYG8GwTnwdjR6ucQfk_IfcVey8d3aqawAF1ecOJRVWs842EHP6NniPbGokvELsYhHGvpzhgY3ix1APgXCmij7-GyIH-n3hjoARLhxEkkgkF8l9K09NKVhgHx8auwsvwSRE4kYfzvoC-8/s1600/skirt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hw="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEYG8GwTnwdjR6ucQfk_IfcVey8d3aqawAF1ecOJRVWs842EHP6NniPbGokvELsYhHGvpzhgY3ix1APgXCmij7-GyIH-n3hjoARLhxEkkgkF8l9K09NKVhgHx8auwsvwSRE4kYfzvoC-8/s320/skirt.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em><span style="font-size: xx-small;">The sort of look I am going for!!!</span></em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>So off to my local Fabric Land I went and looked through their MASSIVE amount of catalogues and chose a cheap-ish, very simple type of skirt. I chose a <a href="http://www.kwiksew.com/default2.cfm">Kwick Sew</a> pattern and am following the directions!!!<br />
<br />

</div>I bought the prescribed amount of black jersey material, it appears to beWAY too much. But I'm only at the cutting stage, I guess if it all goes wrong I can always make a new one...or a top or something!!! Anyway...photos of the progress and outcome to come later this week, maybe even tomorrow!!!Ruthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6641868182069974814.post-39561547379357011052010-07-16T03:14:00.000-07:002010-07-16T03:16:08.882-07:00Wedding Bouquets!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_6j1Te43lfD8_t1Pp98rSdhGoe2TsjnPiEZWIcLyVnNTQGVCb97f8_oBR21jZAwaR03uZqkolHjmis6EM8wsJsEr3pviF1DmGiUuHMvizmDuBJMnVeIZFSbNmUXo9YUdorLipMZRu0xM/s1600/DSC_0743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_6j1Te43lfD8_t1Pp98rSdhGoe2TsjnPiEZWIcLyVnNTQGVCb97f8_oBR21jZAwaR03uZqkolHjmis6EM8wsJsEr3pviF1DmGiUuHMvizmDuBJMnVeIZFSbNmUXo9YUdorLipMZRu0xM/s400/DSC_0743.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
A very good, and very lovely friend of mine, Ani Smith married Pete Taylor on the VERY VERY hot Saturday the 22nd of May, in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. As my lovely sister was bridesmaid and she was back over from America I also spent the week helping out with wedding organising and creating. The wedding reception was in a beautiful hall in an amazing little 'Jane Austin' type village, and so the theme came quite naturally as a country garden party. Complete with many, many metres of bunting, fairy lights, a hog roast, oodles of flowers, garden games, cup cakes, cricket on the village green and vintage tea cups for all the ladies.<br />
For my part, and the reason for the post, is that the day before the wedding, we were setting up the flowers for the tables, when Ani came in, and (I hope she doesn't mind me saying) had a minor meltdown (every bride is allowed an odd few of these) because the flowers she had orders for the tables and for the bridesmaids bouquets were sooooo much nicer than what she had ordered for her own. These were going to be just plain cream roses in a hand tied bunch, but it woiuld have looked very insignificant next to ALL the other beautiful flowers which included AMAZING peonies, cream and antique yellow roses, stocks, anenomes, ranunculus and cornflowers.<br />
SO, I offered to make her a bouquet up quickly to see if it was more of what she had dreamed of for her own bouquet and yes, (with a few more tears) the decision was made. I would make the bouquets for Ani and her 5 bridemaids. Now, I have done this before, my Mum has done the flowers for ALOT of weddings and I have helped her with those, but I am by no means an expert. But I am putting up the photos cause I am really pleased with how they came out, although, it is mainly due to the flowers Ani chose, rather than my skills.<br />
So here it is in detail,<br />

Hello...it's been beautiful weather here for days and days now...(bit worried it's all the summer we are going to have, so trying to make the most of it), but I currently have tonsillitis, which is rubbish, and I've had a temperature which in 30 degree heat is not ideal. Anyway...this hasn't completely stopped me crafting...<br />
I was looking through a cupboard of odds and ends the other day, (somewhere I put presents, and things that need a make over at some point) and found some plain photo frames, which were nice, I had painted them, but decided I didn't like them once I had. I liked the idea of making them look like a patchwork, (something I had seen on <a href="http://www.designspongeonline.com/2010/05/sneak-peek-lula-aldunate.html">Design Sponge</a> -scroll down to see L<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3a2d19; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"><a class="external" href="http://www.lulaland.net/" style="color: #3a2d19; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">ula Aldunate</a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3a2d19; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"> beautiful patchwork effect wallcovering-</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3a2d19; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"> </span>)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3ppefByyr-zQXTeMF_CXVsIkOn15kHd7JeHCu7k6KJaKBFybyggr8fHk9U5uMbIq-Sb4I2V6bSG3JmFku7j00l1j8tjQPXwyGMrDRMaYPePCCXF3pPZvNnuUQanciQG1Ne3lM5X-C5No/s1600/2010-06-28+10.10.45.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3ppefByyr-zQXTeMF_CXVsIkOn15kHd7JeHCu7k6KJaKBFybyggr8fHk9U5uMbIq-Sb4I2V6bSG3JmFku7j00l1j8tjQPXwyGMrDRMaYPePCCXF3pPZvNnuUQanciQG1Ne3lM5X-C5No/s320/2010-06-28+10.10.45.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Using this as inspiration I got out some lovely Origami paper I bought when I was in the States and set about covering the frames. I used PVA glue to both stick the paper on and to seal them once stuck. VERY simple and easy to do...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAu07tgagrEtwfa-uX7kD7k7vRPWxKH1oqRug8UN-ZzzdkbulJ38DdYuNCFfh9Taf8lfoyQIO2qtrEHAmDRYP5diyQVH4zETEWexKrRaQYbevHqLsKjHQenv8CyG64l40eWlitTzUHjhI/s1600/2010-06-28+10.12.17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAu07tgagrEtwfa-uX7kD7k7vRPWxKH1oqRug8UN-ZzzdkbulJ38DdYuNCFfh9Taf8lfoyQIO2qtrEHAmDRYP5diyQVH4zETEWexKrRaQYbevHqLsKjHQenv8CyG64l40eWlitTzUHjhI/s320/2010-06-28+10.12.17.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Now they hold 2 lovely but very different birthday cards, one from my lovely friend Lucy from the previous post, she is a brilliant crafter and artist, and makes gorgeous cards and the other by my buddy Obi who was 3 I think when he gave me this card and who LOVES Disney's Stitch. I think they may end up with actual photos in, but I haven't had any developed for ages... defiantly needs to go on the To-Do list!!!<br />

</div>Well it was my Lovely friend Lucy's Birthday this week, and upon racking my brain to think of something to make her, I decided to continue my recent quilted bag theme, and make her a quilted craft bag....<div>So I set about cutting 3" strips of almost all my favourite fabrics, and then sewed them together, into groups of 4, then I cut them into 3" x 4 square rows. Then arranged them randomly, joined the groups of 4's, then sewed them all together. </div><div><br />

I'll have to come up with a nice gift to thank her for all the lifts and all her driving!!! and for putting up with me when we turn right...(it seems I am going to be VERY slow when it comes to turning right, especially where I had my crash...It will go I am sure - like falling of a horse - you have to get straight back on again!!!)<br />
So, whilst waiting for the new car to be made, I HAVE been busy crafting and making pretty things...2 projects to share with you today...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>1st is a new quilt - still in the assembley stage, but getting there...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGw5v2-rYVCzrENqId2ivmpH203X2zaeplLtfu_pM7wput9XOzm7kNhZP0ERFanWF7zLacVkGYUIAB63pnAcnJsXeFlDh3ow3wcoxzQO3qfy9DRYWsl95Y5P5XlgyRmjwcC7jMppxqfGE/s1600/2010-05-30+23.00.39.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGw5v2-rYVCzrENqId2ivmpH203X2zaeplLtfu_pM7wput9XOzm7kNhZP0ERFanWF7zLacVkGYUIAB63pnAcnJsXeFlDh3ow3wcoxzQO3qfy9DRYWsl95Y5P5XlgyRmjwcC7jMppxqfGE/s320/2010-05-30+23.00.39.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I used a simple equilateral triangle (it's amazing how Math classes come back to you and words lie Tessellation!!!) I have been wanting to make a quilt which has a large proportion of white in it to really set off the beautiful patchwork fabric I have. Oh I should also add a BIG thank you to Quilt Home for the $20 voucher, I haven't spent it yet, but will defo once I have worked out how to redeem it!!! (see the right side-bar for a link to their site)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1N3GbRQ6PXjr5NZjUCsNPf4w7zRvopo5WRFnJ4KOLfHXxCir59qw3dOfwzN1NrTRZsiFESfeHm5cJ-bT1vpEZJHEzLvRt285x_aspTFkVPglBCytUyjCDlFfA3OGmpVQPkhTbqi3NjqA/s1600/2010-06-09+14.19.01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1N3GbRQ6PXjr5NZjUCsNPf4w7zRvopo5WRFnJ4KOLfHXxCir59qw3dOfwzN1NrTRZsiFESfeHm5cJ-bT1vpEZJHEzLvRt285x_aspTFkVPglBCytUyjCDlFfA3OGmpVQPkhTbqi3NjqA/s320/2010-06-09+14.19.01.jpg" /></a></div>Once I had cut out a triangle from almost ALL the fabric I own I then cut LOADS of white ones out and then tried to group the patterned fabric into colour groups...I'm not sure how successful I have been, but I wanted it to look kinda like hexagons, rather than lines of triangles...I guess once it's assembled it might look more clear. So next comes sewing...I am rather hesitant as I'm not sure how best to do this, I guess maybe sewing them into lines and then sewing the lines together...I'll get my thinking cap on!!!<br />
Onto the 2nd project...<br />
My house-mate and I went to our fries local Craft fair last weekend, and are hoping to exhibit at the next one...although it maybe the one after that....soooooooooooooooooo...I was kinda inspired to get going, build up a stock of things which might sell quite well, and here is my 1st batch of bags...I have already shared some of these in earlier posts, but...since them I have given them as gifts and they seemed to go down pretty well and lots of people said they would like them too, so I'm hoping they might sell well...<br />

What do you think? which one do you like the most? I think my favourite is the fuchsia pink is mine...<br />
And whilst making these it seems that I have FINALLY mastered the ZIP!!! it has taken a while, and much unpicking, but I think I have sussed it...not sure if I would be brave enough to attempt it in clothes but I think they have come out OK, some defiantly better than others...<br />
Anyway, onwards I go, more crafting today and tomorrow, I will post more soon,<br />
enjoy the sun!!!<br />
<br />
P.S. Just thought I would mention a few local Brighton Links to some of my discoveries for buying crafting goodies...<br />
1 - <a href="http://www.justsewbrighton.co.uk/">Just Sew and the Brighton Sewing Centre</a> - come under one website and are over the road from each other...The sewing centre is where I got my machine from and where I go whilst shopping, for little odds and ends, including all the Zips i used to make the bags above...they are always really helpful, smiley and remember you!!! :-D<br />
2 - <a href="http://www.quilty-pleasures.co.uk/">Quilty Pleasures</a> - What a brilliant and aptly named shop!!! newly opened in Brighton, I stumbled upon it whilst taking some friends kids to the park the other day...and what a treat, tucked up in a little corner in 7 Dials, a fully functioning Quilt store!!! I am defiantly going back there!!!<br />
3 - <a href="http://www.handmadeco-op.blogspot.com/">Handmade Brighton</a> - this is the group which runs the craft fair bi-monthly at the Komedia in Brighton, please check them out, they also have a co-op shop on St.James street in Brighton!!!<br />
Thanks, sorry this is SUCH a LONG post<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqabNhOa48t_937zIQ2JdLFtboesmbfgHTwPeyceufv52wpdqmRW1GpF9UzVgxz7XLrgAlzqVypFToy4Taq7wJ_36eAbJC1_VvDp7aafi_jvLdKWic0DdrjcXV90h6a2trPRjwtXaPzao/s1600/2010-05-21+16.38.22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqabNhOa48t_937zIQ2JdLFtboesmbfgHTwPeyceufv52wpdqmRW1GpF9UzVgxz7XLrgAlzqVypFToy4Taq7wJ_36eAbJC1_VvDp7aafi_jvLdKWic0DdrjcXV90h6a2trPRjwtXaPzao/s320/2010-05-21+16.38.22.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
This is a bit of a rubbish picture, but you get the idea...better ones to follow after the day...but this is the brides bouquet and contains 1 peonie, a few cream roses, a few yellow roses, blue corn flowers, red anenomies and white rononculus...all very beautiful and very in keeping with the theme which is 1940's country shabby chic!!!<br />
hope you like!!!Ruthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6641868182069974814.post-30045896052789766652010-05-21T11:41:00.000-07:002010-05-21T11:41:59.215-07:00Blogger's Quilt FestivalI love this idea, a bloggers quilt festival from the comfort of your sofa and your laptop!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<center><a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/05/bloggers-quilt-festival-spring-2010.html"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1071/4600291840_c54e78a6a8_o.gif" /></a></center><br />
<br />
<br />
I thought I would share my favourite quilt I have made so far, for my friends Abbey and Mark and their new baby Noah.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizv7luuWHAxs9wsymmMQ50DP-1Iz_ETCVesYZj9hg-y6xQOjukmwqLwQPxj61kMrKPB_AScXEo3dJbRB3c8CsKizfUjFR1rXJyR-1R22K63loh-BObegu11DxuVSBrp8aYO5C0IrjQlKY/s1600/2010-04-24+15.23.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizv7luuWHAxs9wsymmMQ50DP-1Iz_ETCVesYZj9hg-y6xQOjukmwqLwQPxj61kMrKPB_AScXEo3dJbRB3c8CsKizfUjFR1rXJyR-1R22K63loh-BObegu11DxuVSBrp8aYO5C0IrjQlKY/s320/2010-04-24+15.23.59.jpg" /></a></div><br />
This is the 1st quilt I made using my new machine and a Darning foot. It made free hand quilting soooooooooooo much easier and much less stressfull. I guess I should have been smart enough to know the way I was doing it with a standard foot on was wrong, but I confess, it did take me a while.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoRuqsKlWkJEDrl4ysajvaI3xZ1l3tl6wt43KDGj2xl8yHjEuMVPoqG2yS6L9l4lH4zW7qqVCxnlp2u48KBnvC1QSBOKJ70L-bB8JmffF2W9JsMYliKGuGI4x4hmVcDDdKneQ9lvgDyCU/s1600/2010-04-24+15.27.33.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoRuqsKlWkJEDrl4ysajvaI3xZ1l3tl6wt43KDGj2xl8yHjEuMVPoqG2yS6L9l4lH4zW7qqVCxnlp2u48KBnvC1QSBOKJ70L-bB8JmffF2W9JsMYliKGuGI4x4hmVcDDdKneQ9lvgDyCU/s320/2010-04-24+15.27.33.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I really love giving quilts as gifts, I guess because it has taken time, has been made just for them and is unique from all other gifts...Abbey said she would take it to the hospital with her when she had him.<br />
<br />

This is my best binding effort too, it seemed to go really well, machine stitched on the front and hand sewn on the back, hopefully it will hold up.Ruthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6641868182069974814.post-7379211454649774042010-05-14T14:41:00.000-07:002010-05-14T14:41:32.683-07:00Busy, Busy, Busy...<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Life feels like it has been running away with me since I last posted, maybe it's because my car is now a write-off, so the bus is slowing me down a bit, and it's been my birthday...:-D</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

Some of the beautiful fabric I got brought back by my Mum from the states has made it on a cushion cover...It is soooo beautiful to chop up the big flowers into a small quilt seemed like sacrilege so I cut the flower out and then hand appliquéd it on...I tried various machine techniques but none seemed effective enough or worth risking a beautiful flower for.<br />
<br />

I just used blanket stitch and some lovely Rayon embroidery thread, I think I might secure it a but further with some more detailing in the middle as it is such a large piece of fabric, it is moving a bit...but you get the idea...<br />
p.s. doesn't it go well with the origami cranes above it? :-)<br />
<br />

I did buy some a while ago, but annoyingly guessed about 20cms too short...so I bought some more and actually measured it this time!!! funnily enough it worked this time!!!<br />

I have used this quilt as a practice of pretty much everything, it was the 1st quilt I machined pieced, machine quilted using stitch in the ditch and fully machine binded. LOTS of lessons learnt but it still turned out well enough for me to proudly put it on the back of the sofa!!!<br />
Soooo that's pretty much all of the crafting that has been going on in the last week, I will endeavour to be better and post more regularly!!!Ruthie Umhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12440655037771751849noreply@blogger.com1
